About Me
I am a photographer from Fort Mill, South Carolina. I graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 2023 with a concentration in photography. I am knowledgeable in both analog and digital photography, however, I tend to stick to digital. I take inspiration from artists Irving Penn and G-nie Arambulo. I love many different types of photography ranging from landscape to macro, but I am very much motivated and inspired by the advertising industry and the techniques used in commercial photography. I apply a lot of those techniques to my own photos, as the advertisement world is the driving force behind my work.
A Statement From The Artist
My work explores aspects of commercial photography. I use photography as an opportunity to traverse fundamental principles of contemporary photographic advertisements. For example, I study modern day advertisement photography and explore the lighting, composition, and color techniques used in those shoots to allow me to create my own versions of those shots.
The majority of my projects take place within my studio with everyday subject matter such as cutlery, fast food, clothing, and toys. With the use of a DSLR, lighting, and props, I investigate lighting techniques and model or brand placement that is typically seen in commercialized photography. My investigations allow me to create my own versions of classic merchandising while applying my own techniques and themes such as irony and color. An example of this would be an advertisement for a donut company; I may have a model pose with a donut while they tower over a miniature toy kitchen that I built. Similarly, in a shoot for a certain brand of glass cups, I may use lighting, food coloring, and water to achieve certain visual effects.
